Following paragraph from the book says it all:-

In another ‘Top Secret’ US Intelligence report dated 5 October 1958, Ambassador Langley, quoting President Mirza, says: ‘He has been urged for at least a year by some within the army (Gen. Umrao for one) to take over, but he has told them “POLITICIANS MUST FIRST BE PERMITTED TO MAKE ASSES OF THEMSELVES”.’ Significantly the ambassador then makes his own observation: ‘ALTHOUGH EVERYONE IN PAKISTAN WOULD AGREE THAT THIS IS WHAT THE POLITICIANS HAVE NOW DONE.’
